If possible, classroom windows should be kept closed. Schools without air conditioning will most likely have their windows open which makes it especially difficult for those with allergen triggers as airborne allergens will drift into the classroom.

School sports meets and outings are common, and since triggers abound, it is especially important to have your asthma well controlled and your rescue medication handy.

The use of cosmetic pesticides on properties near the school grounds is also a potential trigger for asthma. Children should be instructed to avoid areas that have been treated with pesticides. These pesticides can be transported into their homes and schools on their footwear.
