The sneezing and possibly wheezing season starts for many in spring. With the pollen season beginning, the indoor school environment is also changing, as students, staff and visitors carry pollen and outdoor moulds inside on hair, clothing and footwear. Open windows also invite pollen indoors.

If possible, it is best to keep classroom windows closed, especially when the grass is being cut. Ideally, local homeowners could be convinced to avoid using pesticides on their properties. Outside the school, trees and shrubs should be cut back to allow better air flow and more light into dark corners, thus limiting the growth of moulds.
